About

After very successful careers in the United States Coast Guard and the business world, a paradigm shift brought me back to my childhood passion. I am an intrepid and enthusiastic champion for the use of experimental and applied approaches in archaeological research. Through an interdisciplinary approach that includes, archaeology, cultural anthropology, geography, GIS, and political science, I strive to improve the station of the contemporary Maya by increasing cultural knowledge, tourism, and the utilization of more productive agricultural intensification technologies once prevalent in the Maya arena. I hope to demonstrate that experimental archaeology, like that of Dennis Puleston and Clark Erickson, can be supplemented by modern technological analysis to facilitate an increase in food production in indigenous communities within the Contemporary Maya Diaspora.  By combining the pioneering work of the great men mentioned above and other experimental archaeologists with the agricultural geography of Timothy Beach and Nicholas Dunning, I hope to document the benefits of reintroduction of said intensification technologies to specific regions and encourage their utilization.
My current education is centered on Maya archaeology and the mastering of GIS. I hope to graduate with my M.A. in August of 2012 and continue toward my Ph.D. The limited use of GIS in the Maya arena and “applied”/experimental nature of my approach call for an elastic and encompassing doctoral program. I have targeted 10 programs, but I am open to suggestion from likeminded individuals.
